A shared vision.

Simulation Platforms.  At APESS, we’ve seen a lot of simulation platforms.  Some are better than others but most are just different.  We'll use whatever platform you use, or we'll make a specific recommendation based on the project or projects you want to undertake.  In particular, we have recent and extensive experience of Aspen Hysys, Dynsim from Invensys, Unisim Design (USD) from Honeywell, Aspen Custom Modeler and Pro/II.  We're also happy to work with Aspen Plus, VMG, IDEAS and other packages.  If you use another platform, we'll probably still be able to help.

Customisation.  Today's simulation platforms are easier to use than ever and carry more features, but no package is ever going to be perfect for every application.  Fortunately, most vendors build extensibility into their software so that experienced engineers can develop their own customised solutions.  This can be challenging but that's where APESS comes in.  We'll design and develop your customised solution.

Training.  APESS will provide turnkey solutions but we'd rather work with you because we've seen that the value of simulation projects almost always extend beyond the initial solution.  Those involved gain a unique understanding of the process that helps them perform better in their day-to-day roles.  A simulation is a tool and putting that tool in the right hands is important too.  We'll provide basic software training, if needed, and ensure we extend the core skill set of anyone involved in our projects.

The right inputs.

The first thing anyone should learn about simulation is GIGO: Garbage In = Garbage Out.  Simulation is about a lot more than just getting the simulation to converge or run.  It is critical to gain an understanding of the degree of confidence that you can place in the model predictions.  This means getting the fundamentals right: chemistry and property models; unit operations models and engineering data.  This all needs to be brought together with deep process understanding.  Get the inputs right and the model can deliver huge value.  Get the inputs wrong and you just end up kidding yourself.
